Get Bluegrass in Snow Hill

Posted by Shorebread | Monday, December 05, 2011

“The local community of farmers, rural inhabitants, nature-lovers, and outdoor enthusiasts really enjoy bluegrass music because of its earthy sounds and beginnings. It’s becoming more and more popular on the Eastern Shore and has a loyal following – just like the Lower Shore Land Trust, lots of supportive followers,” said Jim Rapp, a member of the Landtrust’s board of directors for Wicomico County.

Rapp continued by saying, “We’re hoping that the reasonable ticket price, good bands, and great cause bring lots of people to Snow Hill for the event.”

The Lower Shore Land Trust will be hosting a night of live bluegrass music, locally grown and produced food, local beer, and dancing on Saturday, December 10th. The event, titled Get Bluegrass, is a way to raise money for the non-profit organization based out of Berlin, MD. Tickets are $20 per person, which gets you in the door and covers your first drink, and can be purchased at the door or online at the Land Trust’s website.

The Old Snow Hill Firehall (West Green Street) will open their doors to attendees at 6 pm on Saturday. The Saltwater Stringband takes the stage at 7 pm followed by Chester River Runoff at 8 pm. The Saltwater String band hails from Ocean City and is known for their Appalachian newgrass style with singer/songwriter characteristics. Chester River Runoff is a 4-piece traditional bluegrass band that includes loud harmonies, tight instrumental work, hillbilly humor, and warm spirits. The combination of guitars, banjos, bass, and fiddles will have the crowd moving all night.

“Both bands are awesome and have quite a following. We’re really excited to have them helping our cause and the Get Bluegrass event for the Land Trust,” said Rapp.

A group of about 20 businesses and individuals, including Maryland Coastal Dispatch, Delmarva Power, South Moon Under, SuperFun Eco Tours, the Jenkins family, the Walton family, and more, have also been supporting Get Bluegrass.

The Lower Eastern Shore Land Trust was founded in 1990 as a way to protect land on the shore. The founding members found it vital that the Eastern Shore’s land, heritage, rural characteristics, and sprawling landscapes be protected. The Landtrust watches closely over environmental activities in Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester counties. By assisting landowners to discover, evaluate, and implement land preservations, the Eastern Shore landscape will ecologically prosper for years to come.

Tommy Manson’s barbeque and local downtown restaurants will be offering great deals on food during the event. Dinner isn’t included in the ticket cost, but downtown Snow Hill has some great food options. Harvest Moon Tavern, down the street from the fire hall, will have dining specials on Saturday night. The Saltwater String band will be toting their instruments down Green Street and playing again at the Harvest Moon at 8 pm.

To order tickets in advance visit the Lower Shore Land Trust website or call 410-641-4467.
