Local Challenge Tuesday - Joy of Gardening
Posted by Shorebread | Thursday, June 30, 2011
We planted a very small garden of our own this year, using heirloom plants that we bought from the Good Farm's plant sale this spring. Lemon basil, 2 types of heirloom tomatos, white cucumber, and some type of melon. They have made it through this dry spring, and are currently thriving. Spent the weekend weeding and watering, and that is such a good feeling! I never thought that gardening could be so meditative. Getting the dirt under your nails, and sweating as much as I did, changed my mood from one of stress and overwhelmed, to relaxed. Being able to sit back and enjoy a cold beverage from the Pirate Bar, overlooking the weeded garden, and coming up with ideas of how to fix all the bounty we will soon have from the garden.
