Ocean City Residents Thankful Irene Spares Our Coast

On Friday morning Ocean City officials were calling

For anyone who doesn’t recall, Gloria was the 1985 storm that destroyed
large portions of the boardwalk-the worst since the 1962 storm that caused
substantial damage to the boardwalk, homes, and businesses—precipitated in
damage by the storm in 1933 that cut the inlet. Every large storm in recent history—has left an indelible mark on

Planning Takes a Backseat: Re-Birth of the Humphreys House in Berlin, MD
Posted by Shorebread | Monday, August 29, 2011
We had an uninvited visitor storm into the area this weekend, going by the name of Irene. She put a damper on some of the planning and work to be done on the renovation of the Humphreys House. Now, this home being over 100 years old has seen its share of hurricanes and has lived through them, but being a new owner I was nervous that the sustained winds that were supposed to come with the storm would knock an old tree down onto the home, or worse. Luckily, we survived, with only a small...READ POST.

Ocean City officials have enacted phase 1 of their emergency
management plan, and are urging tourists to stay home this weekend as Hurricane
Irene rushes up the East Coast.
City Manager Dennis Dare believes Irene could rival 1985’s
Hurricane Gloria which decimated the Ocean City Boardwalk and was the last time

However, Dare was quick to point out that people should
already be planning their own personal preparedness plans for Irene, just...READ POST.
