Steven J. Cirile: An Architect's Interesting Perspective on his Own Live/Work Space
Posted by Shorebread | Monday, August 08, 2011
In a quiet neighborhood in North Ocean City, just off a
large canal and adjacent to a small residential park, sits a recording studio
on par with anything owned by a major record label. This particular space cost over $300,000 to build, making it an
anomaly in Ocean City, MD, and likely the whole Eastern Shore. However, this dwelling isn’t simply a
state-of-the-art recording studio, it’s also an architectural office and the
personal home of Steven J. Cirile; architect by...READ POST.
PJ Aldridge: Local Realtor Turned Unlikely Cancer Ambassador
Posted by Shorebread | Monday, August 08, 2011
Millions of people visit
Ocean City, MD every year. But once
those visitors return home, Ocean City is really just like any other small
town; everybody knows one another. In February
of 2010, this little microcosm received word that one of her own had been dealt
a terrible hand.
PJ Aldridge--who up until
that time was best known as an extremely successful realtor who loved golfing,
surfing, and life in general—had been flown to a hospital in Baltimore, and was
given...READ POST.

Closing a Chapter: Prominent Ocean City Family's Estate Set for Auction
Posted by Shorebread | Tuesday, August 02, 2011
Sounds of jovial laughter echo across the sprawling bay
front lawn. A glimpse of ladies
bedecked in jewels, minks, and long gowns that swish and sway as they walk,
deep in conversation. Gentleman, perhaps with cigars and snifters in hand, clap
each other on the back, taking turns commanding the stage, sharing
stories. Silver trays filled with
crystal champagne glasses float by, held aloft by white-gloved hands. For a young Adam Showell, peeking through
the spindles from the...READ POST.

Bungalow Love: Artistic and “Upcycled” Souvenirs
Posted by Shorebread | Friday, July 29, 2011
On a side street in a quaint historic town, sits a little
shop. On the sidewalk in front, is an
Adirondack chair. Initially, it looks
like a really well made version of the popular coastal seat. But upon it nests a placard with golden
words, identifying the chair as an “Upcycled” Ocean City, Maryland boardwalk
Adirondack.
The boards used to make the chair were reclaimed from the
boardwalk replenishment project. Which
means that you could potentially...READ POST.

Swashbuckling on the Bay!
Posted by Shorebread | Thursday, July 28, 2011
Tales have been told for centuries of pirates plundering and
shipwrecks aplenty off the coasts of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. If you truly believe such tales, the sunset
is just right, and you happen to be looking west across the Isle of Wight Bay
in Ocean City, you may just be able to conjure up the image of a pirate
ship! Or, it may be the Duckaneer,
a modern day pirate’s paradise, out for an evening voyage.
Board the Duckaneer at the Talbot St. Pier, and...READ POST.

Dew Tour Brings Record Setting Turnout in Ocean City
Posted by Shorebread | Wednesday, July 27, 2011
The Dew Tour was in town this past weekend, if you hadn't noticed the huge vert ramp and stands constructed on the beach in downtown Ocean City, MD. As a beach town, we are already familiarized with the surf & skate lifestyle, but we were inundated with athletes and fans alike riding their bikes and boards. The construction started the week before the event began, with this year being the first Dew Tour stop to host a Skateboard Bowl competition. Amazingly this skateboard bowl,...READ POST.

Dirty Reggae Comes to Ocean City MD
Posted by Shorebread | Tuesday, July 26, 2011
I remember the day I was exposed to Ska, an infectiously fun style of music that makes you move. Back in the 90's during college, going to see The Toasters, Reel Big Fish, Spring Heeled Jack and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones were influential shows in my life. More recently I have come to appreciate reggae, as many of the beach bars locally have reggae bands perform. So it's only natural that I would love The Aggrolites, as they are a blend of ska and reggae. The band formed almost a decade ago in...READ POST.

Lord of the Fries
Posted by Shorebread | Wednesday, July 20, 2011
There’s a man who holds court in a small white stand on the
Ocean City boardwalk, nearly every day, while the weather is nice. He oversees your vacation, watches your
children’s eager faces, and hands out the boardwalk’s most coveted food. He makes sure that the famous potatoes
uphold the integrity of the original recipe started in 1929. He is Les Morris, commonly known amongst
his co-workers, as “Lord of the Fries” at the infamous boardwalk...READ POST.

Local Challenge Tuesday - Joy of Gardening
Posted by Shorebread | Thursday, June 30, 2011
We planted a very small garden of our own this year, using heirloom plants that we bought from the Good Farm's plant sale this spring. Lemon basil, 2 types of heirloom tomatos, white cucumber, and some type of melon. They have made it through this dry spring, and are currently thriving. Spent the weekend weeding and watering, and that is such a good feeling! I never thought that gardening could be so meditative. Getting the dirt under your nails, and sweating as much as I did, changed my...READ POST.
